Restorative Fillings
Amalgam is the name that dentists give to silver fillings. Actually the fillings that are commonly referred to as silver filling are composed of different metals, silver being the dominant one.
These metals are mixed with mercury which forms a soft plastic mixture that is placed into a tooth & then becomes hard. Amalgam fillings are used to restore decayed teeth.
White filling composites are fillings designed to match the color of your teeth. The dentist matches the composite material to the patient’s tooth color. Because they blend so well with your tooth enamel, composites are used where dental work could be most visible including the front teeth and at the gumlines. Also, now they are used extensively in the back teeth as well are; with few specific limitations.
Composites may not work if a cavity is too large or an area is subject to heavy chewing. Your dentist knows when composite resin is most appropriate as a restoration material. For many patients, white filling make a healthy and natural looking smile.

X-rays
Radiography is recommended to determine the status of the hidden areas of the mouth. It is are used to detect new cavities or to determine the status of gum disease or for evaluation of growth and development. We at Dental Optima provide the facility of Intra oral as well as Extra oral x-rays using computerized high-tech Radiographic machines . These enable us to provide the highly specialized orthonopentamograms & cephalograms in addition to routine peripical dental x-rays.
While digital x-rays still require a patient to "pose" for a picture, the process and result are no longer the same. What was once actual film that was developed is now transformed to a method of capturing an electronic image instantaneously. The image is stored in a computers' database. Digital technology a clear choice for Dental Optima today.
Root Canal Treatment
- Nothing is as good as a natural tooth ! And sometimes your natural tooth may need root canal (endodontic) treatment for it to remain a healthy part of your mouth. Sometimes the pulp inside your tooth becomes inflamed or infected. This can be caused by deep decay, a crack or a chip in tooth , or a blow to the tooth.
- Signs to look for include pain, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, discoloration of tooth, and swelling and tenderness in the nearby gums. But sometimes, there are no symptoms.
- The Dentist removes the inflamed or infected pulp, carefully cleans and shapes the inside of the tooth, then fills and seals the space. Later a crown or other restoration is placed on the tooth to protect it and restore it to full function.
- There are many misconceptions surrounding root canal (endodontic) treatment.
- Root canal treatment doesn't cause pain, it relieves it.
- Most patients see their dentist or endodontist when they have a severe toothache. The toothache can be caused by damaged tissues in the tooth. Root canal treatment removes this damaged tissue relieving the pain you feel.
- The perception of root canals being painful began decades ago when root canal treatment was painful. But with the latest technologies and anesthetics, root canal treatment today is no more uncomfortable than having a filling placed.
- Saving your natural teeth , if possible, is the best option.
- Nothing can completely replace your natural tooth. An artificial tooth can sometimes cause you to avoid certain foods. Keeping your own teeth is necessary to maintain the proper nutrient balance in your diet.
- Endodontic treatment, along with appropriate restoration, is a cost-effective way to treat teeth with damaged pulp and is usually less expensive than extraction and placement of bridge or an implant.
- Endodontic treatment also has a very high success rate. Many root canal treated teeth last a lifetime.
Orthodontic Care
- Orthodontic treatment early can prevent more extensive treatment later.
- Malocclusion is often inherited. Orthodontic problems also are caused by dental injuries, the early loss of primary teeth or such habits such as thumbsucking, fingernail biting, or lip biting.
- Orthodontics can enhance your child’s smile, but the benefits far surpass appearance. Pediatric orthodontics can straighten crooked teeth, guide erupting teeth into position, correct bite problems, even prevent the need for tooth extractions. Straight teeth are easier to keep clean and less susceptible to tooth decay and gum disease.
- Different orthodontic appliances work in different ways to benefit your child’s dental health. Some are fixed; others are removable.
- As with any dental treatment, the more a child cooperates, the better the results. First, careful brushing and flossing keep the appliance and your child’s health in top shape. (Removable appliances should be brushed each time the teeth are brushed). Second, regular dental checkups, -- besides orthodontic appointments—protect your child from tooth decay and gum disease.
- Healthy teeth can be moved at almost any age. Many orthodontic problems can be corrected as easily and as well for adults as children.
- Orthodontic treatment early can prevent more extensive treatment later.
- Today there exist a wide range of orthodontic devices which include the traditional Stainless Steel Braces to the practically invisible Tooth Colored Braces to the totally hidden Lingual Braces.
