Adhesive Dentistry
With the availability of hi-tech bonding agents it is possible to bond literally any material to the tooth. With the advent of these newer materials it has been possible to conserve the tooth structure, build and replace teeth by tooth colour materials for optimum appearance and function. Adhesive dentistry has made minimum intervention and maximum conservation possible in Restorative Dentistry.
Crown and Bridgework
Crowns become necessary when there is not enough natural tooth structure to hold a filling e.g. severely broken down teeth from decay or fractured teeth. Crowns can restore proper appearance and function of the teeth. Bridge works like a series of connected crowns, replacing missing teeth, bridging the gap by using the adjacent teeth as supports. It is fixed permanently and not removed by the patient. It looks, feels and functions the same way as your natural teeth, giving you years of comfort, stability and youthful appearance.
Cosmetic Dentistry using Porcelain Veneers and Crowns can produce perfect smiles. Veneers are thin laminates bonded over the front teeth to improve the looks such as shape, shade of the teeth and to close the gaps.
Similarly Porcelain Crowns can improve the looks and appearance of worn out fractured and malpositioned teeth. Veneers and Crowns are strong and long lasting permanent restorations. Veneers and Crowns require just two appointments. The teeth are prepared and impressions made during the first visit. The laminates and Crowns are cemented/bonded in the next appointment.
Following photos illustrate how cosmetic dentistry can correct common problems of spacing, crowding, shape and shade of your teeth.
How can I whiten my teeth?
There are many ways of whitening the teeth. Chair side bleaching is done in the dental office and usually takes about 30 to 60 minutes. A soft (mouthguard) plate is made by the Dentist. Using special light and gel whitening material bleaching is carried out. Sometimes the teeth may become sensitive following bleaching treatments.
Nightguard (Home) Bleaching. The bleaching gel is dispensed in the tray. The patient places the gel into the mouthguard which is worn up to two hours daily or at night or during the day, for about two weeks.
How long does bleaching last?
It lasts for quite some time, however requires regular professional cleanings along with occasional touch up. The surface of your teeth can be stained by tobacco and certain foods and beverages such as coffee, tea and turmeric in the food. Avoid stain-causing foods for the first several days after the procedure.
What is laser whitening? Is it safe?
Recently laser whitening can be carried out by a special powerful light and gel. It has been found to be fast and effective. However long term studies are still awaited.
Smile Design
It is possible to simulate a proposed new smile by Cosmetic Dentistry on your face before the start of the treatment.
This is done when the patient is met in person, the needs assessed and recommendations made after examination of the mouth. A smile as per patient's needs and Dentist's recommendations is created.
